This post takes me back. Travelled there with my sister, Got off the train. Nowhere to stay, first thing I did outside the station was get a pair of shades π π€£ No meetings, nothing, but got my first film deal from there. Sales agents thought I was a nutter, said I was shopping around. However, I didnβt have an idea or script,
I had a movie teaser trailer, all the artwork and such, and deal got sealed away from Cannes back in SoHo. That was a good few years ago. If I did that approach today, no chance. π―on this post. Cannes is a great experience to see how the market, biz works. I would never go back unless I checked all the points you highlighted. βοΈπ₯
π Ohh absolutely. All changed. All led to production and pre sales sales deal, distribution advance. Guy Richies investors, and potential deal for another film with New Line Cinema. Until in screwed it all up after the first film. πAs you know, was a different time. Could be a bit more rocknroll back then. π Naive delusion but with a solid pitch packaged film. Wishing you all the best in Cannes. πβοΈπ₯
You go to Cannes to start networking and it starts with Mr Elliot Grove of Raindance at Cannes.
But remember don't go with just an idea, a thought , for no one owns a thought, and once you tell it to someone you gave it away for FREE... Duh!
You go with exactly what Raindance has taught you to prepare... and when you take the 7 Question Test of how does your project rate from 1 (low) to 14 (perfect) you better have a project that you rate 14.... Bloody Great!
For, if you don't believe in it how can you expect anyone else to?
Now, go to Cannes, meet at the Raindance party and have a "14"
Thank you so much for this post I have not been to Cannes YET very grateful to read your Post and all analysis and recommendations that I can learn from you now I feel I can really seize the power that can be unleashed! Next year in Cannes !Cheers!
